Gay athletes are back in the spotlight following the Feb. The senior defensive lineman, who is considered a mid- to late-round draft pick, announced that he was gay just before the NFL scouting combine. Sam would be the first openly gay player in the NFL.

The reaction around the league has been mostly supportive of Sam, but that feeling is not shared by all on the Redskins. Cousins, who starred at Michigan State after graduating from Holland Christian, goes on the say: "To that degree, we'd welcome him into our locker room and say come help us win, and hopefully I can love him like Jesus and hopefully show him what it means to follow Jesus.

At the time, Cousins called it a "very, very sensitive issue" and that he hadn't given it a lot of thought.
